Carl's Crazy Paving Blog

Hello, my name is Carl and this is my paving blog. My friends think I am a bit of a loser as I love paving so much. My love of paving started when I was six years old and I saw my dad laying down new paving stones in our garden. I was amazed at the size of the things and I immediately started to examine the paving stones I found all around my neighbourhood. When I became a teenager, I started to hang around in my dad's workshop and he taught me how to lay and repair different types of paving. Even though I didn't follow in my dad's footsteps, I still take a keen interest in all things paving.

Do You Need a Cement Rendering Service?

Are you concerned about the state of your render? Maybe you have stood in the garden, looked out at the paving in your garden wall and noticed that some of the render is cracked or missing. While damaged render is cosmetically unappealing, that isn't the only reason to think about looking for cement rendering services. Render has an important role in protecting your walls or paving. Without effective rendering, there is an increased possibility of water penetration and other environmental ingresses. Replacing the rendering is the best way to prevent further damage and ensure that the surface won't need to be replaced soon.

What do cement rendering services do?

If you are wondering what's involved in rendering and why it is so important, it can help to understand what cement rendering services do. If you know how to locate the right rendering company for your job, and what questions you must ask them before they start work, it is more likely that you will be satisfied with the final result. In the simplest terms, render is a thin layer of sand, lime and cement plaster that is applied to paving or a wall. This render can be left as it is, or once it has dried, it can be painted or textured to create your desired effect. In most cases, render is only needed for outside surfaces, although you may also find it internally to create a decorative surface. However, repairing existing render isn't as straightforward as you might think.

Rendering or rerendering?

You might assume that a company that offers cement rendering services will be happy to undertake both rendering and jobs that require the repair of existing render. Some companies may happily do both. However, the skill-sets for these tasks can be quite different, so check what the company usually does before you employ them. First, find out whether the company understand the characteristics of the particular render you need for your job. Next, ask them whether the company understands what is involved in removing existing pebbledash or render and preparing the surface for a small scale repair job, or whether they only render new properties. One of the best ways to find out whether a company is suitable is to arrange for them to inspect your property. Collecting phone or online quotes may give you a general idea of the price you might pay, but it is only once the company has seen where they will be working that you can be confident that they have truly appreciated the scale of the task.
